Neither wind, nor rain, nor snow (all of which are a possibility in the Pacific Northwest) can deter Puget Sound Refinery employees from participating in community events during the Holidays. “This year our employees, along with many family members, participated in two local Christmas Parades” said Jody Barnett, PSR’s External Affairs Coordinator. “Our emergency response team polished up our fire engines, coodinated the volunteers and provided giveaways for the crowd, and they did an awesome job.” On Sunday November 29th, 98 employees & family members represented Shell and Puget Sound Refinery and marched in the downtown Mount Vernon Christmas Parade, which started at 5:00p.m. Included in the parade were Engine 2, Ladder 1, and the Rescue truck. Bundled up and wearing Christmas regalia, we passed out candy canes, taffy, and of course, beads. The 10-foot tall firefighter figures walked the parade route shaking hands and waving at the crowd. This was the first time PSR participated in the Mount Vernon Parade. Our emergency response vehicles were cheerfully decked out with Christmas lights and helped our community ring in the holiday season. On December 5th, 119 employees & family members participated in the Anacortes Christmas Parade and passed out candy canes and Christmas bendable buddies. Again, the 10-foot tall firefighter figures were a great hit. The weather stayed dry but the strong winds posed a bit of a challenge in staying warm. |
