Shell Statement Regarding Department of Ecology Administrative Order

Anacortes, WA - August 12, 2008 - The Washington State Department of Ecology today issued an Administrative Order regarding certain portions of Shell Puget Sound Refinery's Oil Spill Response Plan.  Specifically, the Order addresses preventative maintenance of spill response equipment including checklists and records, locations where spill response equipment is kept and submission of updates to the Oil Spill Response Plan.

Shell Puget Sound Refinery takes great pride in its oil spill response plan, team and equipment. This is demonstrated by the addition of a 31' response boat in 2007, and installation of two 1,500 ft boom reels at the dock in 2001.  All four response vessels are routinely pulled, inspected and repaired.

"We are committed to safety and environmental compliance and policies that help us operate as a good neighbor in Skagit County," says Sue Krienen, General Manager of Shell Puget Sound Refinery. "Our community is extremely important to us, and we operate our business in a manner that reflects those values."
