What Are The Priorities?
1. Priority Contribution Types.
While there are a great number of worthy requests from a wide variety of organizations, the refinery has identified three types of contributions that most directly match up with the priorities of the employees of the plant:
Safety and Health Contributions
Environmental
EducationSafety and Health Contributions
These are contributions that would clearly contribute to the increased safety, health and well-being of residents in Skagit County and particularly disadvantaged or at-risk members of the community.Environmental Contributions
Protecting the environment is a high priority of the employees. To show our alignment with those organizations and community members who share this priority, we actively encourage the submission of requests for environmentally-oriented contributions.Education Contributions
Contributing to the lives of young people and adults in Skagit County through increasing educational opportunities is an important goal. We encourage requests for contributions that will result in enhanced educational opportunities particularly for those for whom these opportunities are not readily available.
2. Impact on Community.
Each contribution is evaluated on the basis of whom it will affect and how people within Skagit County will be affected by the contribution. Higher priority is naturally placed on those contributions that will affect the most people in the most direct way. However, this is balanced by the desire to have a significant impact on those who may be easily forgotten, who are disadvantaged in some way or are under-served.
3. Supporting Employee Involvement.
A great many employees of Shell's Puget Sound Refinery are personally involved in community activities. This involvement may take the form of personal financial contributions or significant contributions of time. We believe that the community involvement of our employees is in fact the largest contribution we as a major employer make to this community. To further encourage this important activity we place a high priority on requests that come through our employees who are involved in the organization or activity. If your organization has refinery employees involved, we encourage you to work through them in bringing your requests to the attention of the Public Relations Committee.
4. Opportunities for Visibility.
It is important to the Shell refinery that members of the community affected by the work of the organization receiving funds from the refinery are made aware of the benefits they receive and of the Shell Puget Sound Refinery's role in providing those benefits. It is important to include information concerning how the work of the organization is communicated to the community along with your request.
