Shell Puget Sound Refinery believes it is very important to actively contribute to the community life of Anacortes and the Skagit Valley. Our contributions include substantial taxes we pay, the direct involvement of our employees in community activities, and financial contributions that support community organizations and agencies.
State and Local Taxes
Shell PSR is the largest taxpayer in Skagit County, contributing several million dollars each year in state and local taxes. The plant also generates revenues over $2 million yearly to the Anacortes Port District for use of port facilities in shipping products.
Employee contributions
Shell PSR employees are very involved in the life of our community. They serve as coaches for youth sports activities, volunteer in a wide variety of non-profit organizations, serve through local churches, provide leadership through board membership, are actively involved in service clubs, and in many other ways. One significant measure of the level of commitment of PSRC employees to the community is through the highly successful employee United Way campaigns. The refinery sets the pace by contributing $25,000 a year and encourages the employees to match or beat the company contribution.
Community financial contributions
In addition to the countless hours of dedicated personal service, the refinery as a company also contributes financially to a wide variety of local causes and organizations. Normally, over $100,000 is contributed annually to local organizations. Emphasis is given to requests focused on community safety and health issues, the environment and education.
